Thanks for the replies. I don't very often get on an anti-JW hobby horse, but from what I've learned from the board and elsewhere and from some friends I've spoken to that I met here I do feel that there are some things worth saying - especially when they crop up on completely unrelated boards and it's obvious that some people have no experience/knowledge whatsoever.

Re prohibitions on calling - there was a similar sort of thing introduced in the UK recently in one area where the Neighbourhood Watch and local council declared an area as 'no cold callers'. No legal basis for it, just an attempt to make cold callers feel unwelcome. The only practical effect will be if residents call the police, IF the police respond, and if the police check out the callers and the callers feel unwelcome and move elsewhere.

OTOH, often in the UK if (say) a public opinion firm is going to be cold calling, they will inform the local police first so at least the police know that they'll be in the area.

The 'someone' is me.

And I think it's providing an opportunity to make more people aware of what the WTBTS and what it can do.

The general feeling is fairly anti JW, but I know that at least one poster there has a 9 yr old child being taken to KH by the divorced parent.

sometimes i wonder how something made it into the bible in the first place.... genesis 38, the story of judah and his daughter-in-law tamar.

background judah's firstborn son er was bad in jehovah's eyes, so jehovah put him to death.

genesis 38:6. so judah being the good father that he was gave tamar to his second son to have sex with and have children in the name of the fallen er... we pick up reading in genesis 38:9.

I have found them challenging and thought-provoking. I have just seen your ‘Watchtower’ magzine dated 1 st September 2006, and the article entitled ‘When a Loved One Leaves Jehovah’. I want to ask about some issues which this article raises and hope that you will be able to clarify some points for me. I should explain that I was a police officer for thirty years and have experienced the dreadful problems which can be caused by ‘broken families’. It seems to me from this article that the author equates leaving the religion of ‘Jehovah’s Witnessess’ with ceasing a relationship with God and/or Jesus. I am uncertain as to whether this was the intention of the article or merely an unfortunate implication. Perhaps you could clarify this. The overall impression I gained from the article is that if someone leaves the religion they are effectively isolated from their family. I am sure that this is not correct within your teachings, and that no doubt you will wish to correct this. It may well be that I have simply misunderstood. You will no doubt agree that particularly in these days of increasing numbers of ‘broken homes’ the love and example of a united family and the exhibition of unconditional love is a supremely important matter, and one which is fully in accordance with Biblical principles. I must confess to having been concerned by the implications of this article. I appreciate, of course, that sometimes articles may be included in publications which fail to reflect the true principles intended.
